Why so many Sub-Zeros in Sherman Oaks?
Sub-Zero dominates the Sherman Oaks built-in market for a few reasons: their vacuum-sealed door gaskets hold temperature better than competitors, their dual-evap cooling keeps lettuce crisp for two weeks, and the cabinet-integrated aesthetic reads as “custom kitchen” instead of “appliance.” Most serious remodels on Longridge, Woodcliff, Benedict Canyon, and anything south of Ventura south of the 101 spec a Sub-Zero 36 or 48 as a baseline.
The downside: they’re complex and expensive to service if your tech doesn’t know the platform. A generic appliance tech will swap a $1,200 control board when the actual failure is a $180 thermistor. We’ve built the shop specifically around knowing what to test first on a Sub-Zero, and it saves customers real money.

Sub-Zero appliances we service
Classic Series (600 / 500 built-ins)
36- and 48-inch stainless and overlay built-ins from the '90s through 2014. Common calls: evaporator fans, defrost heaters, door gaskets, and the occasional sealed-system service.
Designer Series (700 / integrated columns)
Panel-ready refrigeration and freezer columns that disappear into cabinetry. We routinely calibrate temperature control and replace control boards on these.
PRO 48 (stainless pro-style)
The 48-inch pro-style with glass door. Commercial-grade refrigeration with a residential price of admission. Our most-serviced Sub-Zero outside the 600 series.
424 Series Wine Storage
Dual-zone wine cabinets in 24-, 30-, and 46-inch widths. Zone thermistors and dampers are the most common service items.
Undercounter & Drawer
UC-24, BW-30, BW-24, and drawer refrigeration units in islands and bars. Compressor access is tight but workable.
Common Sub-Zero issues we diagnose
- Fresh-food compartment freezing top shelf (evaporator fan failure)
- Freezer won't make ice (ice maker module, water inlet)
- Door not closing flush (hinge adjustment or gasket)
- Temperature display off by 5°F+ (thermistor drift)
- Condenser fan loud or intermittent
- Water pooling in bottom of fresh-food compartment (clogged drain tube)
- Vacuum condenser seal losing vacuum (sealed-system call)
- Dual-zone wine cabinet: one zone warm
- Evaporator frost buildup (defrost heater or thermostat)
- Unit tripping the breaker (inverter board or compressor short)
Why Sherman Oaks homeowners choose us for Sub-Zero
- Factory-style training. We've attended Sub-Zero's authorized-tech curriculum and keep up with the new Designer Series service bulletins. Our diagnostic process mirrors the factory's.
- Sealed-system capability. Most local techs bail on sealed-system jobs. We handle them — EPA 608 certified, with brazing and evacuation equipment on the truck.
- OEM parts, never aftermarket. We buy from Sub-Zero's authorized distributor in Van Nuys. No gray-market parts, no 'equivalent' substitutions.
- One visit, most of the time. We stock the 40-odd parts that account for 80% of Sub-Zero calls. Evaporator fans, ice maker modules, thermistors, defrost heaters — all on the van.
- Built-in access experience. Pulling a 48-inch built-in out of custom millwork without scratching the floor or the cabinets takes practice. We've done hundreds. Your finishes are safe.
